Washington State Residential Code Compliance Rates Highest in US

The state of Washington has the highest compliance with residential building energy codes in the nation, according to the state Department of Commerce and the Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance.

The energy code adopted by the state in 2009 is one of the most rigorous in the nation. The survey showed that 97 percent of the homes being built today comply with the code.

In other states, compliance rates range from 40 percent to 90 percent.
