Join NFRC to commemorate Earth Day on April 20, 2021 with Opportunities for Upgrading Energy Performance of Existing Buildings.

The focus of building codes and sustainability programs is often on energy efficiency of new construction, but that ignores the huge amount of energy used in existing buildings. This seminar will highlight new initiatives to upgrade performance of existing buildings, and opportunities for fenestration and glazing manufacturers. Considerations for commercial, residential, and historic buildings will be discussed.

Presenter: Tom Culp,  Birch Point Consulting

Dr. Thomas Culp is the owner of Birch Point Consulting, located in La Crosse, Wisconsin. After earning a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin, Dr. Culp has spent the last 22 years in the glass and window industry in the areas of energy efficient glazing and window performance, low-e glass coatings, and building code development.

He is co-vice-chair of the ASHRAE 90.1 standards committee, and is an active participant in the International Code Council code development hearing process. He currently represents the National Glass Association and Aluminum Extruders Council on energy and green construction codes, and is also an advisor on various DOE-funded research projects.
