FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NFRC Document Public Review from May 5 to June 19, 2023
and Standards Committee Member Needed
GREENBELT, MD (May 5, 2023) – The National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC) Board of Directors approved four NFRC documents which are now open for public review according to the American National Standards Institute’s (ANSI) process. The public review and comment period are scheduled to run from May 5 to June 19, 2023.
The four documents to be submitted for public review, comment, and the full ANSI consensus process are:
- NFRC 100: Procedure for Determining Fenestration Product U-factors,
- NFRC 200: Procedure for Determining Fenestration Product Solar Heat Gain Coefficient and Visible Transmittance at Normal Incidence,
- NFRC 202:  Procedure for Determining Translucent Fenestration Product Visible Transmittance at Normal Incidence, and
- NFRC 500: Procedure for Determining Fenestration Product Condensation Index Ratings.
The announcement that these documents are open to public comment appeared in Standards Action on May 5, 2023, marking the beginning of the open public comment period. With the documents being available electronically (via the links above), the comment period is 45 days, ending on June 19, 2023.
All changes subject to public review have been previously balloted and approved by NFRC membership and the Board of Directors.
The documents up for review (with changes from previous version shown in underline/strikethrough format), additional details, and applications for joining the Committee are available on the NFRC Documents in Public Review page.
The NFRC Committee that oversees the review process is the Standards Committee. This committee requires a variety of interested stakeholders and balance must be maintained. For this reason, the Standards Committee is now in need of a new member in the User category, which includes:
- Consumers and consumer advocacy organizations
- Utilities and other energy service providers
- Architects, specifiers, and design professionals
- Builders and other construction contractors
- Similar parties with interests in fenestration issues
As an ANSI ASD, NFRC submits any NFRC document that NFRC wishes to become an ANSI Standard as well as any amendments or modifications it proposes, for public review and comment in accordance with the ANSI required procedures.
More information on the Standards Committee, including the application to join the committee and details on requirements and other categories, may be found on the NFRC Community website. If you wish to apply for membership on NFRC’s Standards Committee, please contact Jen Padgett at jpadgett@nfrc.org or by phoning 240-821-9515 to request an application.
